Frequently Asked Questions
1. How much time should my child spend on homework?
Students should spend 20-35 minutes a night on homework, and an additional 10-25 minutes reading a book of their choice. If your child is having difficulty please send in a note letting me know. I don't want students up all night working on an assignment! I will help them with directions and make any clarifications the next school day. Please let me know if homework becomes an issue at any time. Please check the Homework section on this website under “Classroom Info” for more information.
2. Can I volunteer to help?
Of course! I welcome volunteers at any time. I could always use help copying, assembling materials, and making displays. You will need to have a current CORI form on file with the office.
3. How can I chaperone field trips?
We will have a field-trip later in the year. Please make sure to fill out a CORI form with the front office if you are interested in attending.
4. Will there be projects this year?
Yes. Students will have opportunities to complete several projects this year. Some projects are required, and other projects may be offered as optional activities for students looking for a challenge.
5. Will parents be invited in for any classroom events?
Yes. There will be many opportunities during the year for parents and guardians to join us for special presentations and projects.
Additional Information
Daily Snack
We will have a 10-15 minute snack break each day. Pack small snacks that are healthy, easy to eat, and very quick to clean up! (Please try to avoid nut-based snacks due to students throughout the school who might have adverse reactions to contact with nut products or residue.)
Water bottles may be kept on desks at all times and refilled throughout the day at our in-classroom water fountain. I will supply water bottles for the class each week. Donations are always welcome!
Birthdays
Birthdays are special days that come only once a year! Therefore, on each student's birthday, we will:
• Sing "Happy Birthday"
• Enjoy a food-free goody (optional)
State-mandated regulations concerning nutrition and specific food requirements for limited celebrations in classrooms are in effect this year. For more detailed, specific information, check this link:

Families may choose instead to provide a food-free alternative birthday celebration. Some ideas may include:
• Individual goodies such as colorful pencils, erasers, stickers, etc.
• Read a favorite book aloud to the class or invite a special visitor like a family member or friend to read. (This should be pre-arranged.)
